Core strength / Mid-life crisis

I don't know if this has anything to do with mountain climbing but I've decided to increase my core strength, whatever that is.

So I've begun two foolhardy programmes: 100 push ups and 200 sit ups .

It's a six week programme. Erm... so far I've only done one day and my arms are already sore from push ups. Sit-ups (or rather, curl ups) are easier for me, so no soreness yet, but I am probably speaking too soon.

  1. Great idea. I probably don't do enough sit ups. Hate ab work. I try to do push ups everyday..don't be too fussed if you can't make it up to 100. It's really tough to get to 100. 10-20 done in sets will make a big difference in terms of strength and you won't build big muskles. And when we get old, it will help break our falls :)

  2. i am the opposite. hate push ups. would gladly trade for sit ups. There's a recent NYT article that says that it's a myth that lighter weights and more reps means less bulky muscles!

  3. Have to stop at 20 or so push ups coz that's when my head starts to spin. Have to show you photo of my arms one day pre-pushups. Gigantic.
